GOLDEN URN (URNE D’OR)

In the race for the Golden Urn and the prize money of 1,000 €, both sponsored by Bestattung Himmelblau funeral home, are ten feature films primarily created by young filmmakers. These films have been nominated for the award by the SLASH Film Festival due to their innovative power and general coolness.

Jury

Tania Morissette

is based in Montreal and has always had a passion for genre films. Following her studies in cinema at Concordia University, she worked at several festivals such as Toronto International Film Festival where she found her calling. She joined the Fantasia International Film Festival in 2017 where she currently works as Deputy Director of the organization. In 2020, she began working with the Frontières International Coproduction Market, where she curates the Shorts to Features Lab.

Paul Poet

is an award-winning Austrian director, writer and curator. The Biennale Istanbul chose his film §Foreigners Out! Schlingensief’s Container§ for their canon of political cinema, and in 2019, the European festival collaboration We are Europe elected Poet one of the “64 most inspiring European artists, thinkers and speakers.” IndieWire called him one of the greatest Austrian horror-cinema experts. He is currently planning several feature film projects between genre, politics, and provocation in collaboration with Ulrich Seidl Filmproduktion, Freibeuter Film, Ma.Ja.de., and Fountainhead Film (US).

Josh C. Waller

is a writer, director and producer, known widely for his work as producer and cofounder of Spectrevision, the genre-bending production company he founded alongside actor Elijah Wood and writer Daniel Noah. His films have premiered at some of the top festivals in the world, including Sundance, TIFF, Tribeca, SXSW, Cannes, FantasticFest, and Sitges. In 2019, Josh relocated to Portugal, where he opened a new Lisbon-based production company—Woodhead—through which he produced Lovely, Dark, and Deep. He is currently refocusing his energy back to his writing and directing, having recently helmed the period Samurai film, Lone.
