A trio of geriatric dangers to the public vandalize their way through an American suburb: the nastier the act, the more fun they have. Harmony Korine, hailed as a highly controversial “punk poet” of contemporary cinema ever since his script for Kids, reinterprets the demented fun-loving terrorists’ orgies of destruction and violence into an (art-)creative utopia. Shot completely on VHS, this impertinence has been equally loved and loathed since its release in 2009. The film eats its way through your entire brain and (at least for those capable of imagination!) endures as a vague notion of the worst nightmare that you haven’t yet actually experienced. Visionary! Harmony Korine
is an artist and filmmaker based in Miami, Florida, who is constantly pushing the envelope. Cinematic legend recalls how he pulled the script for Kids (1995) out of his knapsack and handed it over to Larry Clark. His first own foray into directing was the award-winning Gummo (1997). Harmony’s oeuvre, which is as memorable as it is controversial, includes Trash Humpers (2009), Spring Breakers (2012) and Beach Bum (2019).
