A car accident reduces the life of small-time tennis pro Dutch to a shambles. There’s nothing he wants more than to find the car and the person who hit him. That’s when he sees an ad placed by Lyra, a psychic; he contacts her and, spotting his potential, she agrees to train Dutch in her multidimensional ways. But her student gives her a hard time; further complications arise via Lyra’s evil brother Haxan, plus the characters’ quest for the Paragon, a crystal that promises near-limitless powers. With its flashy neon images, fast-paced montage and a synthy score by Lucola, this hilarious feature debut by Kiwi Michael Duignan turns the absolute banality of its urban setting upside down. (tt)
