Ghost in the Cell

In a men’s penitentiary in Jakarta, life behind bars runs its grim course. Rival gangs are at each other’s throats, sadistic guards revel in their power. But when the unassuming reporter Dimas, convicted of killing his boss, moves into a cell, all hell breaks loose. More and more inmates are brutally slaughtered, their body parts arranged like art installations. Quiet Anggoro soon suspects a supernatural killer is picking off the prison’s most hotheaded inmates. To survive, you need a positive aura, and that means: pray and dance, or die. In Ghost in the Cell, Indonesian horror master Joko Anwar serves up tongue-in-cheek humor and slapstick seasoned with extravagant, ever-escalating gore and sprinkled with martial-arts mayhem—taking aim at the system with all the force of a sledgehammer.
