Frankenstein Fragment

Norbert Pfaffenbichler, master of the darkest avant-garde cinema, is also a veritable film archaeologist. No wonder, then, that his excavations of forgotten celluloid legacies unearthed a sensation: fragments of the very first film adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, shot in Germany in 1922 and long believed to be lost, including test footage and outtakes. Pfaffenbichler and his team set about shaping this material of incredible historical value into a version that comes as close as possible to the original concept of its unknown filmmaker.
