When the US Army mistakenly unleashes an experimental WMD on the people of Tasmania, they collapse braindead. Shortly after, however, they rise again, reduced to bags of meat and bones driven by base instinct. American therapist Ava signs up as a volunteer in the government-run removal of the undead, especially since she hopes to find her husband, who had traveled to the island before the disaster. Zak Hilditch’s visually blistering disaster thriller injects new life into the zombie genre by grafting new ideas onto familiar elements—and showing, like many movies before it, that “human” and “humane” are not necessarily synonymous.
