A village in the French countryside. Nawojka, a woman in her early twenties, works hard on her Polish father’s farm. She is bashful, taciturn, and bullied by her brothers. But something dark is brewing within her; sinister forces are awaking. At night, she’s haunted by nightmarish visions, while cows keep dying on the farm. And as the mysterious Sandra appears in the small town, Nawojka loses control over her powers once and for all. French director Julia Kowalski (Raging Rose, the short I Saw the Face of the Devil) interweaves mystical elements with horror to forge an atmospheric juggernaut. Her second feature is a bleak parable of power, victimhood, and female self-empowerment. (Leonie Markovics)
Julia Kowalski
Julia Kowalski was born in France to Polish parents. She explores her relationship with her country of origin through her films, through themes like the working-class environment, adolescence, family, sexuality, and faith. Raging Rose (2015), her feature film debut, was presented in the ACID section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Her exorcism-themed I Saw the Devil’s Face (2023) grew out of her research for her sophomore feature, Her Will Be Done, with Maria Wróbel starring in both. Both were selected for the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight.
