On June 16 and 17, 1996, two MiniDV tapes are found somewhere in Vienna. They contain footage of two students who wanted to apply to film school with their project but accidentally uncovered an unbelievable conspiracy: lizard people walk among us, and they’re expediting the secret hybridization of the human race! Their plan to alter people so that reality and fiction blur is mirrored by Michael Gülzow, who infiltrates the Austrian ’90s with this found-footage thriller, hotwiring it with today’s conspiracist scene and, almost in passing, unmasking the typical right-wing jargon of then and now. As an added bonus, the film once and for all answers the question of what happens when you play all one hundred episodes of ALF at the same time. (Thomas Taborsky)
