An unsuspecting tourist couple books a shark tour with a seedy boatman, who turns out to be a psychopathic killer feeding his victims to the sharks. Admittedly, this particular aquatic subgenre has acquired a rather fishy smell in the half-century since Jaws, but to add an entry as fun- and fright-filled as Dangerous Animals couldn’t have been an easy feat. With his latest outing, Australian director Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones) once again proves to be an extraordinary genre craftsman, chumming the waters with this lean, unadorned thriller that strikes with ruthless precision. (Markus Keuschnigg)
