Masterclass Joe Walker
60 Min
Britain’s Joe Walker has set the standard in film editing. It has already earned him an Academy Award—in 2022, for Dune—and two further Oscar nominations: in 2014 for 12 Years a Slave and in 2017 for Arrival. Two master directors are inseparable from his work: with Steve McQueen, Walker cut Hunger (2008), Shame (2011) and 12 Years a Slave, among others. More recently it is above all Canada’s Denis Villeneuve with whom Walker has kept up a long-running collaboration, beginning with the thriller Sicario (2015). In this masterclass, Joe Walker offers the SLASH audience an insight into those collaborations, into his working process, and into a career holding remarkable moments of cinema from Brighton Rock through Blade Runner 2049 to Dune: Part Three.
