When the Museum of Modern Art decides to digitally restore a movie, it must be art—even if it’s about conjoined twins separated long after birth, one of whom looks perfectly ordinary and the other decidedly doesn’t. Which, dear SLASHies, is why you shall approach Basket Case with due reverence. In 2017, the MoMA performed an outstanding public service by ensuring the continued existence of Frank Henenlotter’s midnight-movie milestone. Alongside its fabulously tasteless bloodbaths, Basket Case offers a surprising amount of feeling, portraying the relationship between two very different brothers with disarming heart. True art!
