Basque Country in the seventeenth century, during the Inquisition. Fleeing her husband in the cover of darkness, young Kattalin promptly has another sinister force breathing down her neck. Taken in by three mysterious women deep in the forest, she listens as they recount recent supernatural events in the village—events that seem inextricably tied to a burden she herself carries. In striking, magical images, Paul Urkijo Alijo once again conjures a world of Basque folklore, witches, and divine spirits, weaving a haunting tale of guilt, repression, and the reclamation of monsters long weaponized by patriarchy and the Church to keep society in check.
