FANTASTIC FLINGS
Applying the notion of a “fling” (a carefree romance or casual hook-up) to our partnerships with international festivals, SLASH is proud to get into bed with International Animation Film Festival Tricky Women Tricky Realities for this year’s edition of Fantastic Flings. It’s a collaborative program that explores relationships through a genre lens and showcases the best shorts from both festivals, embracing mutual exposure in the spirit of “we’ll show you ours if you show us yours!”
Based on the fantastic potential of animation to disrupt familiar structures of storytelling, the program embarks on a journey through bizarre and uncanny, yet at times (surprisingly) funny and tender encounters — because even paradise and dystopia can sometimes fall into an affair! Their entanglement raises questions: What becomes of hunger and longing when the desired dream suddenly draws near?
