After the sudden death of her mother, Alice (Marvel star Olga Kurylenko) returns to her parental home to make the necessary arrangements for the funeral. Everything would seem the same as always—if it weren’t for the annoyingly elaborate security system that her mother had installed in a supposed bout of paranoia. Automatic locks, emergency flashers, sirens, and an intricate video surveillance system are meant to keep evil at bay—if it’s not too late already. Director David Moreau (Mads) gives us Other, a nightmarish, stunningly effective horror thriller whose every twist and turn brings us one step closer to its devastating finale. (Mattias Fabian)
