Dead Lover

A lonely gravedigger thirsts for love, but the cadaverous odor that is her constant companion prevents her dream from coming true. At last, she finds the one, who is even enraptured by her scent—but he’s soon swallowed by the sea. Yet, a severed part of his body remains intact on land, and the bereaved sets to work, conducting madcap experiments in an attempt to bring her dream man back to life. The brilliant Grace Glowicki, who also stars as the malodorous protagonist, realized her enchantingly idiosyncratic horror comedy with a fistful of actors and dollars, 16mm film stock, and minimalist, theater-like set design. Inspired in equal parts by Mary Shelley and Mel Brooks, this movie’s characters pine for others, or slaughter them, rhyme while they’re at it, and get finger-banged in the process.
