Eins vorweg: Wir finden, Strange Darling ist ein Instant Classic, der völlig unvoreingenommen genossen werden sollte. Den Neugierigen, die weiterlesen wollen, verraten wir, dass hier ein One-Night-Stand in einen Serienkiller-Blutrausch mündet und dass es sich bei JT Mollners (übrigens komplett analog auf 35mm gedrehter) Huldigung an das Grindhouse-Kino der 70er um eine in sechs Kapiteln unterteilte, nicht chronologisch erzählte Tour de Force mit zahlreichen Plot-Twists handelt, die nicht zuletzt von Stephen King als „cleveres Meisterwerk“ bezeichnet und auf Rotten Tomatoes mit satten 100% geratet wurde. As a screenwriter, he is involved in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk, among other projects. His directing debut was the ultra-low budget revisionist Western Outlaws and Angels, which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. The cat-and-mouse thriller Strange Darling, his sophomore effort, had its world premiere at the 2023 Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.
