Television reporter Angela and her team are spending the night at a fire station in Barcelona when there is a call for help from a residential building. Arriving there, the TV cameras document its tenants’ creeping infection from a virus that turns them into raging, bloodthirsty creatures. With [Rec], Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza staged one of the most efficient and suspenseful horror thrillers of the 2000s, which in its concentration of a classical, scary story (with religious underpinnings) and the unfamiliar immediacy of its point-of-view perspective still works its dark magic upon the hearts, minds, and stomachs of the audience.
