Shortly after her mother’s suicide, Shoo travels to a village in the countryside to provide personal care for an elderly woman. The latter is constantly talking about “them,” who need to be kept away, and she preps her house with protective objects. Shoo dismisses all this as symptoms of dementia, but soon she is plagued by her own demons—and the question arises as to who really needs help here. Aislinn Clarke intelligently packs themes of generational trauma and mental illness into an unsettling piece of folk horror, enhanced by Gaelic dialog, terrific leading actresses, catchy title music and a creepy goat.
