It’s hard to tell whether Crimson Snout should be recommended to dog lovers or haters, especially as this question also (or primarily) arises in a culinary sense: Bad karma and a red-nosed dog-demon plague a family of Vietnamese butchers after the death of their patriarch. His son Nam and his girlfriend Xuan get caught up in supernatural mischief during their visit to his funeral—as if the loathsome relatives weren’t bad enough. In his debut film, Luu Thanh Luan serves up juicy folk horror with soap opera vibes, grotesque CGI creatures and an extra-greasy portion of doggy stew. (me)
